On Friday, Lewis Hamilton and the Mercedes Formula One team announced[1] that they had agreed to a two-year contract extension. The renewal will extend a nine-year relationship between the two. These two additional seasons line up with changes to the Formula 1 regulations governing the vehicles. The last time this happened (i.e., the introduction of the turbo-hybrid era[2]), Mercedes became a dominant force in the sport, and only now, at the end of this era, has there been a successful challenge to it.
While the press release[3] included sparse details about the contract, some insights into how the team operates, can be gleaned. For those interested in corporate governance issues, the press release does provide some insight into the inter-connected links between the Mercedes team with other people and entities.
Readers of this blog will be familiar with the emphasis that Berger Law places on relationships. They are a part of life and a part of business. In light of that fact, we’d like to share a small sample of some of the relationships and connections to Lewis that we were able to find (look for the red circle to find him, above).
